Taking a test
How long does it take to do a test?
Some tests do not have a time limit and others do. Here, we differentiate between questionnaires and tests.
Questionnaires, such as the Q1000 Personality, have no time limit. Here, you decide entirely how long you take. We use a clock to give you an indication of how long it takes on average to complete the questionnaire:
A test such as the Q1000 Capacity Test, for example, does have a time limit per question. Once you have started the question, you can see how much time you have left on the bar at the top of the page:
Finally, there are also tests with a total time per test, rather than per question, as with the Q1000 Accuracy test. Again, you can see how much time you have left on the bar at the top of the page:
We want to advise you to take the tests in an environment where you will not be disturbed.
Can I prepare or practice for the tests?
Yes, this is possible! Especially in the case of an ability test, we advise you to prepare well.
You can practise for free via the web page oefenassessment.nl, which we helped set up. (Note: unfortunately, oefenassessment.nl is only available in Dutch for now.)
Some candidates have pointed out to us that there are third parties that offer paid practice packages. We advise against using these. These so-called practice packages are not related to our tests and are usually very different, they do not help to prepare you for our tests.
On oefenassessment.nl you can find information about what to expect when taking an assessment or specific test. Here, you can also take practice exercises for the ability test, which can help you feel more confident and less nervous at the time of test taking. We also recommend reading the instruction leaflet of the ability test carefully.
For a personality test, for example, it is less relevant to prepare yourself, as this is not a performance test but a test that gathers information about personality traits. However, you can consult the instructional brochure if you want more information.
For all tests, we advise:
- Ensure that you are well rested
- Work in a quiet environment where you will not be disturbed
- Ensure you have a good and stable internet connection
- Update your browser to the latest version
Issues during a test
Sometimes test-taking does not go smoothly. Below, you will find common issues with their solutions:
- If you get an error message, close the browser. Then restart the test in the same way as before. All previously committed answers are saved. You will then see all the instruction screens again, afterwards you will continue where you left off.
- If you have a (temporary) problem with your internet connection, you can continue the test later. You can then start the test in the same way as the first time, as soon as the problem is resolved.
- If your internet connection (wifi) drops out frequently, check whether you can use a fixed internet connection (via a cable).
- If you have problems with your computer or internet connection that prevent you from completing the test properly, we recommend finding another computer or location to complete the test.
What does a test programme look like?
The taking of a test usually begins by checking your personal data. Then, we will, follow with an overview of the test programme, showcasing all tests and questionnaires that you will take. For each part we will give an approximation of how long it should take for you to finish it. Each questionnaire starts with an explanation, followed by 2 or 3 practice questions.
Once you have completed the test, you usually do not have to do anything further. We process the results automatically. Sometimes your results are only sent after you have given your consent. If that is the case, we will let you know after a test.
